What Is CBD?

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol or CBD, is a phytocannabinoid found in agricultural hemp.  Cannabidiol has been recognized for its benefits on human and animal health and is capable of affecting nearly every biological process. CBD is non-psychotoxic (i.e. it does not result in feelings of euphoria) and has a remarkable safety profile.  CBD is legal in all 50 states.

Cannabidiols, derived from hemp (Cannibis Sativa)  that have a high amount of CBD, that does not have the psychoactive properties, can be used in the management of a variety of disorders. Some of which includes anti-pain, anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, or even anti-spasm disorders without becoming sleepy or having the effects of euphoria that is characteristic of cannabis.

The U.S. Government filed a patent on cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants back in 1999. This patent was filed when they first started researching the healing benefits of CBD. CBD that is pulled from hemp plants is legal in all 50 states. (

What is THC?

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant, also known as marijuana. When used, either through ingestion or inhalation, THC binds to specific receptors in the brain called cannabinoid receptors. In low doses, THC may reduce pain, and may reduce anxiety, Higher doses may cause the “high” associated with marijuana, leading to altered perception of time and space, feelings of happiness, or feelings of fatigue.

THC is a class 1 drug in most states which makes it illegal to be produced and administered. Many synthetic cannabanoids that are being made by the pharmaceutical industry have been tested, but have not been able to pass phase 3 trials which would allow them to be produced for the public in the U.S.

What is the difference between Hemp and Marijuana?

The plant Cannabis Sativa can be referred to as both marijuana and hemp.  If the plant has more than 0.3% THC by weight, it is considered marijuana.  If the plant has less than 0.3% of THC by weight, it is considered hemp. THC is the euphoric agent in marijuana. Hemp oil is the oil that has been extracted from the plant. It has many industrial uses and is used in fabric and rope.  CBD oil is hemp oil that has been further extracted and refined to be more concentrated, allowing higher levels of CBD and lower levels of other cannabinoids and terpenes.

What are Terpenes?

Terpenes are organic, aromatic molecules produced in the resin of the hemp plant along with cannabinoids, and are responsible for its fragrances, flavors, and color.  When Cannibidoil is processed it is important to keep the constituents intact for their healing effect.
